Moderator Moment
by Marti Taba, MD
How do we leave an imprint on the world? What can one person do to make our world a better place?
Pastor Amy always wants to change the world. When I first met her 4 years ago, I do admit I thought she may have delusions of grandeur. However, as I work alongside her, I am starting to understand the vision. Care for our community and our property, people will come. Care for our neighbors and partner with nonprofit entities doing great work in the community, now we’re a part of something bigger. This work over time has led me to think bigger, broader, about what is possible. I am so proud that this congregation supports the bold moves we have made to uplift each other and our wider community.
Christian Nationalism is something we should understand and decide for ourselves how we can project our values and God’s love in the world. We are glad to be invited into these conversations and will be having a forum on our campus on Thursday, October 29. To provide our community an opportunity to learn more in a smaller setting, we’ll be having a townhall on Sunday, October 25 at 10:30pm in Leigh Hooley Room.
We were delighted to welcome new members Cherilyn and Kevin Shiinoki, Rea Park and Noah Kang on September 27, 2026. Thank you for being CCH’s reflection of justice, love and grace in our community and beyond, we can’t wait to get to know you better!
Mahalo, mahalo to Ryan Urabe, Pastor Rick and Arnold Hirotsu for planning and executing our Men’s Retreat! What a day of connecting and eating!
Council has been busy making sure the business of the church is supported. We have officially changed to a new IT company – Enlighten Technology. With much thoughtful discussion, we have decided to change from bookkeeping (Jitasa) to a local accounting firm called Accumulus which should provide our treasurers with added support. Finally, we have decided to change from ADP to Honolulu Payroll. Your leaders continue to be committed to using trained professionals to do the church work for efficiency, accuracy, and to be a lift to the staff and lay leaders. We thank all of you for your tithes and offerings, which make it possible to do all we need to do to bring church to life on Sundays and every day.
Please join your council, led by the Pastoral Relations committee, in appreciating our Pastors and Staff on October 25, 2026 as October is Pastor Appreciation month. Feel free to bring a little something for Pastors Amy, Melissa, Rick and our fabulous Roz to show your appreciation! We also look forward to stories about the church’s history by some of our long-time members, which starts on Sunday up until Advent!
October is speeding by and we’ll be headed into the holidays before we know it! With the busyness now and thinking about the busyness to come, it is a real gift to gather on Sundays to pause, ponder, and soak up the experience of church. Thank you again, church family, for your abundant welcome, it matters and is changing the world. See you on Pastor Appreciation Sunday!
